utah bound

well, folks. today is the day i've been waiting for since september.
today is the day we go to utah for a ski trip.

i've got my iPad charged, my movie downloaded, my comfy leggings on, and a suitcase full of sweaters and thick socks. i'm ready.

here's a few photos from our trip last year:
me and my sister

i love the chair lift rides...so pretty.

from the plane. gorgeous, right?

park city

i'm determined to have my camera in my hand at all times, except when i'm skiing down the mountain.

[also, blogging will not exactly be on the forefront of my mind this week ;) but i'll try to do a few posts while i'm relaxing!]

hope you all have a very happy new year!

high five for friday

it's friday...yes!

here's my five favorite things from this week:

1. it hasn't happened yet, but i'm going to the duke game tonight with my BIL! cannot wait!

2. i've recently become slightly addicted to gossip girl. unrealistic? yes. dramatic? yes. somewhat bad acting? yes. exactly what i want to pass the time watching? yes.

3. getting my new iPad 2! also exactly what i want to pass the time with.

4. the fam is leaving tomorrow for Deer Valley, UT to go skiing!
view from the top of a run last year in Park City. breathtaking.

5. maybelline's baby lips tinted lip balm in pink punch. goes on like a chapstick, feels like a lip gloss, looks like a lipstick. perfection.

top knot

i've started wearing my hair in a top knot on "off" days [read: days i don't feel like showering and doing my hair].

it's the perfect little style to make you look like you spent more than five minutes getting ready, but really you didn't.

super easy, versatile, and trendy right now.

without further adieu [or is it "ado"], i give you the top knot

video

sorry for the video quality. technical difficulties. oh, technology.

i got home last night and was instantly in clean-up mode. i unpacked both suitcases [one full of clothes, the other full of christmas presents], organized my room, and took all my christmas decorations down. am i crazy? i think i am.

i'm spending the day today de-cluttering the downstairs, redecorating a few things, and hopefully buying myself an iPad : )

i was reminded yesterday of how great of an artist God is.

post-christmas dread

the day after christmas has got to be one of the weirdest days of the year. you spend at least a month, if not more, looking forward to and preparing for one day [christmas] and suddenly it's all over. and you have to put away all of your decorations. and suffer through the winter weather that is yet to come.

the only thing i am happy about is that i will no longer be eating like i'll never have another meal. i easily gained at least 5 pounds in the past 3 days...okay, maybe not. but it feels like it.

my mom and i went to an antique store the other day and found this...

anyone else have a problem with the fact that this was in an antique store? i can't be that old, can i?

hope you all had a great christmas & happy sunday yesterday!

sugar overload

i haven't felt the slightest ounce of hunger in the past three days...which means i'm definitely home for christmas break.

my mom has a tendency to over-serve food. she literally spends almost the entire day in the kitchen and keeps making wonderful, delicious smelling things that i just cannot resist.

it's seriously a problem. i'm afraid my skinny jeans will be more like jeggings by time i leave next week.

oh well.

two of my cousins slept over two nights ago, which included a ping-pong ball fight, a lot of food, and watching the x factor finale together, with jaelyn talking every three seconds. she's a chatty one when she has had a lot of sugar.

yesterday we baked cookies for family that will be here today and tomorrow.
my mom's caramels...which are to die for.

chocolate chip snowball cookies

they thought it would be a great idea to lick the powdered
sugar off the counter. oh, to be young again.

spritz cookies

hard at work

i can't wait to dig into all of these sweets tonight.

merry christmas eve, lovely readers!

i hope you all have a fabulous day!

high five for friday

not only is it friday, but it's the friday before christmas! yeee!

i love christmas.
ornaments, lights, snowmen, christmas music, time with family, cutout cookies, boots, scarves, opening gifts. all the works.

1. getting to eat portillo's. the best fries, hot dog, and root beer you'll eva have.

2. x factor finale happened last night - i wasn't at all surprised with the results, melanie has an amazing voice.

3. rockin' the top knot on a rainy midwestern day.

4. wearing my hunter boots everyday since i got them.

5. my sonia kashuk luxury lip color in mauvey.

skincare

i've had a few of you ask me about my skincare routine, so i thought i'd share it!

it's really important to me to have clean & clear skin. i hate nothing more than having to put on a lot of concealer and powder to try and cover up blemishes. so i do my best to  have a strict skincare routine so that i don't have to use a lot of makeup everyday.

here's the products i use on a daily basis:

in the morning:
i use this Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub by Neutrogena in the shower. i make sure to lightly scrub my face for about 30 seconds and then rinse it off.
you can find it here.

before applying my makeup, i use one pump of mark.'s Matte Chance Mattifying Lotion all over my face. super smooth and very moisturizing.
find it here.

at night:

i use Kirkland's Daily Facial Cleansing Towelettes as my makeup remover. i buy them in bulk from Costco.

i use this Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Cream Cleanser every night after taking off my makeup.
you can find it here.

then i apply Neosporin Lip Health Overnight Renewal Therapy on my lips and it lasts all through the night.

i have pretty sensitive skin and have finally found these products that work for me. i've tried so many different brands and types, but neutrogena has worked wonders.

everyone's different, but if you're in the market for new skincare products, i recommend any of these!

what's one product you just can't live without?

movie review

two weekends ago, my sister and i went to see New Year's Eve. i didn't expect a whole lot from it, but i didn't expect to be so bored with it! we were both a little shocked at just how bad we thought it was. so we decided to do a little movie review.

some of you may have already seen this on my sister's facebook fan page. for those of you who haven't, enjoy!

happy monday!
i'm headed home for the holidays today : )

product spotlight: What A Line

this, my friends, just might change yo life.

i'm talking about mark.'s What A Line felt tip eyeliner. it's like a marker...but it's eyeliner. super easy to apply. great alternative to the typical liquid eyeliner with the tiny brush that smears all over your eyelid. or maybe that's just me.

i told you guys about the Mac fluidline pot that i use for eyeliner in my make-up tutorial. which i love. but i've wanted to try more of a liquid eyeliner for a more dramatic look. mark.'s did the job.

see, it looks just like a marker!

i applied it only on the right side (my left eye)
so that you can see the difference between the two

it's only on the left side (my right eye)

for a softer look, apply the eyeliner and then use a smudging brush to
smudge it into your eye shadow. the line won't be so
defined but you will still see the eyeliner.

this is how it looks smudged, on the right.

interested in trying this awesome eyeliner?
let me be your mark. rep!

just go here to find my shop : )

high five for friday

1. it was 65˚ yesterday. on december 15th. i actually broke out in a tiny sweat at one point.

2. becoming a mark. rep! check out my personal store here.

3. i caved and bought myself a pair of hunter boots...which i've been swooning over for about a year. i cannot wait to get that beautiful package on my front step.

i went this olive green boots and cream socks :)

4. antibiotics & probiotics. not for me...poor little otis is sick. but i'm pretty sure he's on the mend now. he's become much more snuggly and happy over the past day.

he was sleeping under my desk while i was doing
some work...poor little guy is worn out

5. passing my accounting class!!! i have never been more happy to pass a class and know that i never have to take it again. ever. ever. hallelujah.

NYE party dresses

i'll be spending my new year's eve traveling to utah for a family ski trip...which i'm not complaining about.

but, one year, i'd like to go to some swanky NYE party and dress up in one of these to-die-for dresses. i would wear any of them in a heartbeat.

which ones your favorite?
