high five for friday

1. thankfully, i'll be missing the better part of the crazy heat wave that is headed our way...and to about 27 other states. i was not created for this type of weather.
2. donuts are good.
3. i found this tiny pack of gum the other day and couldn't resist buying it. i mean, come on.
4. sometimes, otis likes to snuggle with milo's feet. that's normal, right?
5. sister and i went out to one of our favorite restaurants for her birthday. it was delicious

sometimes i don't know what to title posts

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6

my sister and i leave this weekend to travel home for a little R&R at the family lakehouse. we're planning to do a lot of eating, relaxing, laying by the lake, and probably a little bit of antique store shopping.

my iPad will have a freshly downloaded movie, my carry-on bag an arrangement of snacks and magazines, and my suitcase filled with mass amounts of clothing that i most likely will not wear, but will appreciate having the option to.

oh, and in case you're wondering, i will basically be wearing every single one of the items above. it's pretty much like traveling in pajamas, but a little less questionable.

sometimes i wonder

sometimes i wonder what it would be like to have a grown-up job where you have to look professional everyday. pencil skirts, silk blouses, trench coats - the works. you know, like those professional, doing-it-all and still looking gorgeous everyday types that we see in the movies. that's real life, right?

eh, maybe not. that's okay. for now, i'm happy going to work in shorts and flip flops and playing dress-up on my days off.

30 with thirty // week two

as promised, kate and i chose our favorite outfit from the first week of the challenge and the winner is: Cari from The Skinny Olive Blog! Here's a photo of her outfit that we just love!
for details on her outfit, click here
thanks to everyone that's linked up! we loved looking through all of your outfits and hope that you stick with us!

here's my next three outfits:

link up with your next couple of outfits below and we'll pick our new favorite and share it next week!

these are my seven go-to essie colors. i obviously have a thing for pinks and purples. i got a manicure the other day and my nails started chipping the next. talk about a bummer. good thing i have my own arsenal of polish to just DIY it.

what's your favorite nail color? are you into the bright colors or do you lean more towards the classic neutrals?

high five for friday

we've made it to another friday. for some of you, that's quite an accomplishment this week, so congratulations! spend today celebrating that you made it through another week! for others, you probably can't believe it's friday already. i just so happen to be with ya on that.

here's five of my favorite things from this past week:

1. my new Q&A book from barnes & noble. you answer one question a day for an entire year, and continue to do that for five years. at the end of the five years, you have a book full of answers to different, random questions. i'm really excited to see how my answers will change over time!
2. a pretty typical conversation with my sister.
3. essie's big spender is my new favorite nail color. it's a perfect purply-magenta.
4. otis was supposed to be overseeing the construction of a new TV stand, but got a little too tired for the job, i guess.
5. i spent a couple hours of a rainy day in bed and it was glorious, i tell you. i'm really not sure if it gets any better than that.

store crush

if i could shop at one store without any regard for the cost of the products, i would pick j. crew. one hundred percent of the time. ok, maybe 99 and the other 1 would be anthropologie for their home stuff.

every time i walk in that store, without fail, i find at least 10 things i would want to buy. by the way, i'm lucky if i walk out with a 'sale' item or, at the very least, a free catalog. i just don't know how they do it. but i'm into it. so i hope they never stop.

heard that, j. crew? never stop being awesome. thank you.

confetti artwork

i found this DIY over at mint love social club and knew i had to do it. it's super simple, relatively inexpensive (if you are able to buy the canvas on sale - i got mine from Michael's for about $25), and a perfect way to add a statement to a room without it being too over the top.

what's great is you can totally customize it - color, size, shape, everything.

i also love that it reminds me a lot of kate spade because, well, i'm kinda obsessed with anything kate these days. kate spade, i mean, not my sister kate. well, her too.

30 with 30 challenge

My sister and I are doing a style challenge!

Here's what she has to say about it:

I've been inspired.

For several months I've stumbled across various style bloggers that do this thing called "30x30". Basically, they take 30 items from their closet and make 30 outfits from them. It's a way to challenge yourself to be creative and rethink your wardrobe while trying to avoid shopping.

And I think that is a great idea.

Based on my search, I believe the originator of this idea* is Kendi, from Kendi Everyday. You can click here to read about why she started this challenge, and while you are there please just go ahead and follow her blog. She's awesome. I love her outfits. I'm sure you'll enjoy seeing her posts as much as I do!*if for some reason I'm wrong, send me an e-mail so I can give proper credit.

And so, we're embarking on the 30x30 challenge. And we are making it a link up--so you can join us too.

Basically, do whatever you want. If you want to do 40x40, 10x5, 4x8, it doesn't matter. The goal is to try to create new outfits based on clothing you already have.

There will be a weekly link up (on Tuesday's) HERE, where you can share your outfits. From that link up, we'll pick our favorite outfit that week and feature it on the following week's link up page. We're not looking for amazingly perfect photoshopped photos, or the coolest background with the sun setting at just the right angle--we're looking at clothes. So, go ahead and stand in your mirror and take a photo with your iPhone.

We'll begin by sharing the 30 items we've chosen. Each week, we'll share a few outfit posts until we run out of options.

Want to get in on the fun? Here's how it will work:
Every Tuesday (starting June 19th) you can link up with ONE post that features up to THREE outfits from the 30 items you chose from your closet (which means that the challenge will last at least 10 weeks). Then, you can check back the following week to see if your outfit(s) was picked as our favorite of the week! And link up another few outfits.

Grab the button below and spread the word!

Here's my 30 items that I chose:
3 skirts // 2 pants // 1 shorts
2 dresses // 3 casual tops // 7 nice tops
1 chambray shirt // 1 sweater

5 pairs of shoes

4 necklaces // 1 belt
