i need your help!

my sister and i are headed to DC tomorrow for a little girl’s weekend. neither of us have ever been before and we’re really looking forward to exploring the city. but, before that fun can happen, i have to pack. and i hate packing. like, a lot. mostly because i always over-pack because i don’t know what kind of mood i’m going to be in and what i’m going to wear. and, i don’t know about you, but i’m pretty sure clothes change during travel and look/fit different every single time.
so, i need your help! which outfits do you like?
side note: that giraffe print skirt is bananas (another side note: i’m actively trying to add that word to my regular vocabulary). i picked it up from madewell yesterday and pretty much want to wear it every day. and i’m pretty sure it was made for my body…it fits like a glove. i have a feeling this is just the beginning of a slightly unhealthy relationship with an article of clothing.

all of these are freaking fantastic BUT I will say…add about 4 more layers or you will be freezing walking around the city. well, one of the days it's supposed to be 60 but in the morning it's brisk. and layers is the best way if you are going in and out of stores, museums and restaruants – but I love all these…I love 4 a lot cus of it's cool laid back style…but they are all great.

I travel for work a lot and also have an unhealthy relationship with my clothes – I love them too much to leave behind. Typically I pack an ungodly number of sleeveless / short sleeve bright color or fun printed tops and then three cardigans – black, grey, and either white or tan, depending on the shoes (or boots!) I'm packing. Along with a belt, a few fun necklaces, and a couple of bottoms – usually one plain skirt, one plain pair of dress pants, and a pair of jeans – I can make these outfits last for a good 2 weeks just by mixing and matching. It's great to layer!

(Not this this is that helpful with the outfits shown above. I just figured I'd throw out the suggestion!)

I love the pink hoodie under the blazer. That will look great in front of the grey monuments. My husband and I just went to DC and saw everything! I packed cute skirts and sort of "dressed up" everyday. I'm glad I did because the pictures turned out great and I don't look like a tourist. However, my feet hurt so bad after one day that we had to quit site seeing. I highly recommend bringing the most comfortable shoes possible (while maintaining your look) DC is much bigger than we expected and we did a lot of walking. Another tip to help save your little tootsies is to rent the bikes. It's so easy and fun and was by far my favorite part. Have fun!

    BIG NOTE!!
Whatever outfit you end up wearing, you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY need to wear tennis shoes. I've been to DC and many other big city's. Your feet, no matter how tough, will hurt and wear out. TENNIS SHOES!!

  71. Note about DC: people dress nicely there. Most people are dressed in really nice business casual during the day and then nice dresses (girls) in the evenings. At least, that's always been my experience. I'd go with 1, 3, 6, 8. (and NOT #4 – you might feel really out of place! Unless that's your travel outfit…)

I recommend checking out Eastern Market (off of the blue or orange metro line). In addition to lots of yummy treats inside, the outside of the market is filled with lots of vendors selling great prints, scarves, and jewelry. My sister is actually coming to DC this weekend to visit me – yay for sister weekends!

I like all of them, everything except maybe 3 and 4 because they aren't so cutsie as the other ones!

1, 3, 6, 7! Side note: You will be walking ALOT in DC so be COMFORTABLE (and with comfy shoes!!) Lucky for you its supposed to be warmer this weekend so you shouldn't have to be super bundled with layers! Enjoy the sight-seeing!

Love all the outfits! I live in DC and this weekend is supposed to be pretty amazing! FYI, I would try to make a reservation at Georgia Brown's for brunch Sunday morning if you have time. It's the BEST brunch in the city and is a cute little restaurant that plays live jazz music. It's fantastic! I would also try to check out Eastern Market and Barracks Row (8th Street in SW near Capitol Hill). There are a ton of cute restaurants, shops and bars around there.

1, 2, &4 are my faves! I love the layering of the zip up hoodie under the blazer. I've never thought of that.

At some point, you and/or your sis should do a blog (or series) on layering. Y'all always have the perfect button down under the perfect sweater, without looking bulky….no easy feat!

Have fun in DC. You'll walk until your feet fall off but you'll love it!

I hate packing too! I get super anxious and I over pack to compensate but still end up stressed out. I'm sure you are about gone on your trip but I love all the ones with boots and leggings and the sweater/belt combo with your skirt on 7. Have fun.
