Wedding Update, No.2

I’m excited to share another wedding update today! We’ve gotten quite a few more things accomplished, but still have a lot to do…and we’re just 5 months away! I have a list of things that need to be done by the end of this month, so I’m hoping to mark a few off the list today and tomorrow, too.
We’re booked our DJ and videographers, officially! We have a proposal from a caterer and all the food sounds amazing. She sent over pages and pages of options. It’s actually overwhelming to look at, but so exciting to be able to think about the menu and what we will be serving that day. There are just a couple more essential vendors that need to be finalized, but we’re almost done with all the really big things.
I’m still searching for bridesmaid dresses, which has been the hardest part of the entire process, thus far. It’s a summer wedding, in a more casual environment, so I’m looking for long maxi dresses. I would love to be able to find something that the girls can wear again, so I don’t want it overly Bridesmaid-ish. The hardest part has been finding the stye in the color that I’m looking for. I’ve found quite a few styles that I really like, but they’re in navy or maroon or dark colors that just wouldn’t fit a Summer wedding. I ordered some that are to be delivered today, so I’m anxious to see what they’re like, in person, and if they would work. I’ve honestly been quite surprised by how difficult it has been to find something.
Mike and I are going shopping next week for his suit and the groomsman outfits. I’ll be curious to see what color he leans towards and what styles he likes. My goal with all of these outfits for people is for everyone to feel comfortable and like what they’re buying. I’ve heard enough from people who had to spend $200+ on something that they will never touch again, so if I can avoid that for our wedding party, I’d love to. We will see how difficult it is!
I think we’re finally going to start planning our honeymoon, too! I asked for suggestions on this Instagram photo and got so many good recommendations. Now, we just need to go through them, do a bit of our own research, and turn it over to our travel agent to do the planning (more on that to come).
This month, I need to:
– confirm hotel details for out-of-town guests, including transportation
– start looking at invitation options
– finalize rehearsal dinner details
– look for a bakery for wedding cake (!!!)
– pull the trigger on Bridal Party wear
– (and probably other things I’m forgetting)
In the photo, these beautiful lace espadrilles for the Honeymoon and this leather passport case!
P.S. How do you like the new digs around here?!

You probably don't want to share, but I'm curious what color you're looking for for your bridesmaids. I had a really hard time finding the color I wanted too, and ended up finding something unexpected and perfect!

I'm looking in the blue/grey/sage family. I originally had my heart set on a specific color, but I think we may have found the right dresses in a slightly different color!

      Oh good!

You've probably already thought of this, but might I suggest showmeyourmumu.com for bridesmaid dresses? They were too causal for my wedding, but I do love the maxi-style they offer and many of them come in lighter colors. Just an idea. I ended up finding mine on BHLDN and not in the price I wanted. Much higher than I expected. Another idea is lulus.com. Very affordable. I got one of my dresses off there and it is surprisingly good quality for the price. Happy wedding planning! #2monthsandcounting

I had the girls order some styles from SMYM and the fit was so weird and off on some of them. I just couldn't justify having them pay $150+ for a dress knowing that some of them would need extensive alterations. I was so bummed because I love the colors they offer!

I know the feeling on not be able to find the color and the dresses that make you happy. My maid of honor found an amazing bridesmaid dress website that gives you a wide variety of dresses and colors! The site is called, azazie. Com and it is definitely worth looking up! Happy planning! I hope this helps.

I agree with show me your mumu!! Best dresses ever and the absolute cutest! I wear mine all the time.

The fit on some of the styles was so weird and off 🙁 We tried to make it work, but just couldn't justify the price tag for the amount of alterations some would need!

Amazon for bridesmaids dress FTW! I got my maids dress on there for $40! I ordered just one at first because Prime made it easy to return if I hated it, and I was not convinced the quality would be any good. I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth checking out if you're hesitant to make your ladies spend lots of $$ on something they might not wear again.

I actually did look at some on Amazon and found some potential options!

My cousin found her bridesmaid dresses on Modcloth. I'm pretty sure they have a lot of bridesmaid style maxis on there 🙂

Yes, I've looked! Their color selection is pretty limited, but love some of the styles!

I got my wedding dress and bridesmaids' dresses at BHLDN. Seriously, the most beautiful thing I have ever worn. And they were great to work with! I know whatever you end up going with will be great! 🙂

Hey there! You may have already had suggestions on the cake, but I live with a professional baker and thought I'd offer up her advice on wedding cakes. She warns to not get the whole reception "cake" completely edible but rather only have one edible layer…this will save a ton of money. Then you can just have sheet cake to serve your guests which will cut the cost way down 🙂 You and Mike can still use the bigger cake for pictures, but you're guests get to enjoy some dessert too!

Hi! I'm not sure if your wedding is in Chicago or not but if so, we used Cake Chicago for ours and the cake was out of this world delicious. You can design it how you want and the tasting process was so incredibly fun. They even worked with me to do an extra surprise cake the next day at our brunch for my husband's 30th birthday which he loved. Again, this might be useless but just wanted to toss it out there! http://www.cake-chicago.com/

I feel your pain on the color conundrum. I wanted a very specific shade of smoky blue gray for my girls & ended up going through a national chain bridal store that I wasn't happy with to get it. In other news, my best friend is getting married in June and wanted to wear pale gray instead of traditional bridal & found gorgeous simple affordable options with Alfred Angelo bridesmaid dresses. Very cute & able to be worn again.

I love the dresses from eshakti.com. The one thing I love about the dresses is they can be custom to each girl and they get a great deal if they are first time buyers. PS I love the new blog style!

I had Henkaa dresses for my wedding and they were I think $150 for the maxi style. Then every girl can choose how they want to wear the top (strapless, backless, one shoulder etc.) They are very easy to dress up and come in a huge rainbow of colours!
