My Favorite Amazon Purchases

I've been an Amazon Prime customer for a few years and love it. Whenever I need or want something, the first place I look for it is on Amazon. I use it to buy a lot of basics - hand soap, cat litter, Nespresso pods - but have also found some gems on there that I use in my day-to-day life. I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite and/or most practical purchases:

DYMO LabelManager Plug N Play Label Maker
I use this label maker to label all the things in my office (and elsewhere)!

Enso Braided Silicone Rings
I ordered the pink sand and the white to wear layered while we were in Mexico and love them. I knew we would be in and out of the water and doing activities, so I wouldn't want to wear my rings. With the alternative being locking them in a hotel room safe, I figured it was just better to leave them at home! I also wear these rings to the gym so that my engagement ring and wedding band don't get scratched up by the metal weights I use.

Dyson V7 Motorhead Cord Free Vacuum
This was my favorite Black Friday purchase of 2017, by far. Our previous vacuum just didn't quite have the power of this one, and it was super bulky and took up precious storage space. My mom and sister both have a version of this vacuum and raved, so I picked it up on sale. It's so lightweight, takes up such little space (we have it mounted on the wall of our laundry closet) and does a great job.

Russell + Hazel Desktop Calendar
I use this calendar as my "content calendar" for the blog. I love that it's blank, so I'll be able to use it for the next couple years (it comes with 36 sheets). I'm able to organize what posts are going live which days, post ideas, campaigns/collaboration reminders, and anything else that is relevant. It hangs on the wall in my office so that I can peek at it from my desk, too!

Conair Fabric Defuzzer
My mom had one of these when I was growing up and I would use it all the time - I'm so glad I remembered it was a thing! It's great for removing any pilling or physical wear on clothes without causing any extra damage.

The Hat Depot Baseball Cap
A simple and classic baseball cap for the gym, time spent outside in the sun, or a bad hair day 😉

Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish
I like buying my favorite nail polish brand online because there are typically a lot more color options to sort through than in stores.

Alaska Bear Silk Sleep Mask
I'm pretty sure that I'm one of the world's lightest sleepers...everything wakes me! Being able to block out all light in the room helps me sleep a little more soundly, so I love this mask. I take it with me everywhere we go.

40 oz. Tumbler
This is the only way I'll get even close to drinking enough water in a day!

Oversized Sunglasses
I typically don't like to spend a lot of money on sunglasses because I know they'll end up lost, scratched, or crushed. I like this option because they're stylish and good quality without breaking the bank.

My Trick to Feeling Pulled Together

If you've spent any time around here or scrolling through my Instagram photos, you know that cozy clothes are basically my love language. I have my own business and work from home, which means there isn't any sort of expectation for how I dress or look every day. Some days, I work best in my pajamas and bedhead, other days I like to take the time to pull myself together a bit before starting the day. Since I reach for leggings 4/5 days of the work week, I'm particularly skilled at building an outfit around leggings that I also feel confident in to go out in public wearing.

I like to keep things simple. Simplicity, to me, is having a minimal color palette, wearing just a few pieces, and keeping things fuss-free. My go-to for effortless style is always black. It's chic and slimming, and it is fashionable. I love a good all-black outfit with a few touches of another color, like blush, white or grey. Since the goal is to be comfortable, I don't want to layer on jewelry or accessories. The point is to look put together without putting in a whole lot of effort.

Once I have my base, I think through the extras, like shoes, a jacket or top layer, and a bag. A really easy way to do this is to pick a color and stick with it - like in this outfit, my shoes and jacket both live in that blush/brown family, and my bag is black. I wanted a little more of a refined look, so I reached for my favorite suede moto jacket to up the "cool" factor a little. The sneakers I grabbed were a no-brainer - I love these sneakers. They're super comfortable, the prettiest blush color, and can be dressed up or down. I like them with this outfit because they lend themselves to the casualness of the look, while allowing the fitted jacket to polish the look. They balance the simplicity of the all-black without making too much of a statement. They're so versatile! I'm looking forward to wearing them in the Spring paired with a easy sundress or ripped denim shorts and a feminine eyelet top.

After I've pulled together an outfit, a quick swipe of lipstick and spritz of perfume are all I need to head out the door feeling confident.

Be sure to check out Nordstrom for your shoe shopping needs - they have so many good styles right now!

T G I F.

I had one of those weeks where I never knew what day it was. Monday didn't feel like a Monday and I definitely thought Wednesday was actually Tuesday. It worked out well, though, because I was always behind a day, so the week went by quickly!

Since we were in North Carolina for the majority of last weekend, I'm looking forward to having a full weekend at home! There are some chores I'd like to get done around the house, but I'm also hoping to spend some time outside on Saturday, when the weather is supposed to be beautiful! I'm anxious for it to warm up so that we can take advantage of all of the hiking trails and wineries again.

I was finally able to restock/re-work some of the curated boxes for Elisabeth Ashlie this week! My new favorite is The Girl Boss Box, probably because it's a gift that I would love to receive. There's also a Limited Edition Galentine's Day Box that you need to order for your best gal.

These just might be the cutest flats I've ever seen.

Are you watching This Is Us? The most recent episode of was just TOO MUCH. The only other show that I've ever been this emotionally invested in was Parenthood (which is my all-time favorite).

A little inspiration for your weekend.

Don't forget to sign up for my newsletter! The first one goes out on January 31st!

Have a great weekend!

Styled • The Graphic Tee

I've recently rediscovered my love for a good graphic tee. I prefer a more casual, laidback style, so graphic tees play into that perfectly. I like that you can dress it up or dress it down, depending on how you're feeling or what you're doing. For a more casual look, a graphic tee can add some interest to an outfit without feeling fussy. For an evening out, I like to fancy it up with some statement jewelry and heeled booties. It really is the best of both worlds!

Elisabeth Ashlie Rose Druzy Studs, Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Nude, H&M Blush Cardigan (would also do this sweater), Old Navy Tee, H&M Leggings (also love these), Sole Society Mikayla Bag, Steve Madden Lancer Sneakers

Coffee Conversations

Happy Friday! My week ended up looking a little bit different than originally planned. At the last minute on Tuesday, Mike and I drove to my sister's house to take over babysitting while she and my brother-in-law escaped for a little getaway in NYC! It's been really fun (and exhausting, for someone who doesn't have children 😉) to get some one on one time with our nephews for a few days. I'm treasuring this time with them!

Mike and I just surpassed six months since getting married. While that's not really a landmark anniversary or anything, it's pretty wild for me to think an entire six months has already passed since that day. We're already talking about where we want to travel to for our one year in July (or around July)!

I randomly popped onto Old Navy's website the other day, just to see if they had anything cute available, and was so impressed by their selection! I went a little wild and ordered a bunch of things, most of which are cozy/loungewear pieces and were on sale. I'm going to do a little un-boxing on Instagram Stories when I get back home this weekend, but thought I'd share a couple things I ordered: this adorable tee, this perfect bit of weekend wear, and this accurate sleep shirt.

I'm slowly working my way through this book, hoping to finish it in the next week or so! It came up as a "Recommended" read on Amazon, based on other things I've read. It's pretty interesting and intriguing at time, but I've also read some really, really good books recently. It's always a bummer to fly through a really entertaining book and then get into one that's just not as good, ya know? I'm thinking of sharing what books I've read and loved in a blog post, similar to The Podcast List, as a reference for anyone looking for a new novel!

We made these cookies yesterday and they are so good. Every recipe in this cookbook looks amazing!

Hope you have a great weekend!

My Favorite Boots for Every Season

It wasn't until about two years ago that I started enjoying buying shoes. Before that, shoes were the equivalent of outerwear; exists for function, style optional (my views have changed a bit on this, too). My infrequent shoe searches were based on comfort and practicality only. If they happened to be cute and stylish, that was a bonus! I had about three at a time that were in regular rotation - a sneaker, a ballet flat, and a boot or bootie.

While I still prefer shopping for other things over shoes, I have developed an appreciation for the element that a pair of shoes can add to an outfit. Picking out which pair I'm going to wear on a given day is no longer an afterthought; it's a calculated decision based on what I'm wearing, what I'll be doing, and any outstanding factors, like weather.

While my collection of shoes has grown a bit, I still have my golden pairs - the styles that I keep reaching for over and over again, year after year. My favorite rain boots have been my trusty sidekick for several years now. Obviously, they're great in the rain - I brought them with on our trip to Seattle last year and wore them the whole time - but I also like them for snow. I pull on a pair of super warm socks and they function as good as a traditional snow boot. They're even cute with a flowy dress in a spring or summer rainstorm!

Since we're still in the thick of the winter season, I've rounded up some other inclement weather boots from Nordstrom! Forever in love with their variety and free shipping and returns. You can't beat it!

Instagram Lately • No. 01

I receive a lot of questions from you guys on Instagram about where things are from, how sizing runs, etc. on the outfits that I share. I love that I can be a resource for cozy, comfortable, and practical clothes for you! I like to wear clothes that I feel good in, so it's always a treat to hear that you've purchased the same item and love it as much as I do! As you'll notice through the photos, I mix and match a lot of what is in my closet. I tend to wear the same few items a lot for a couple weeks and then slowly mix in other pieces. It's always fun for me to find new ways to wear the same items in my closet!

As always, you can shop my photos using on Instagram or the app (which is my favorite way to shop IG photos!). If you don't like using LTK for whatever reason, you can shop my most recent photos here.

Coffee Conversations

I thought I'd bring you a special Saturday-edition Coffee Conversations post, since I wasn't able to publish one yesterday! We got back from our trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico very late last night. It was both of our first time vacationing in Mexico and we're quite confident we will be back! While it's always hard to leave paradise, I'm happy to be back home and to really get into the year. Since I knew we would be gone the second week of January, I haven't fully stepped into "work mode" since the holidays. Now that we don't have any weekday travel on the horizon, I'm anxious to get into a regular routine and officially start the New Year.

I read this book from cover to cover in less than three days. It was so good - the perfect companion for the beach!

I love that my favorite foundation doubles as sunscreen with SPF 50. My skin is pretty sensitive, so applying standard sunscreen always results in breakouts. Since I've been using this foundation, I've been able to protect my skin and keep it clear!

After eating at an all-inclusive resort for 5 days, I'm about ready to just eat celery for the next week. I didn't really eat that bad, but I was craving a home-cooked meal by the second day! I'm definitely looking forward to getting back into the kitchen this week. I'm thinking about trying this new recipe and this one

This sweatshirt makes the perfect travel companion.

I opted to leave my engagement ring and wedding band at home and wear these silicone bands instead. I knew that we would be in and out of the pool and at the beach, so I wouldn't want to be wearing my rings there. Wearing them for travel to just leave them in the safe felt like a waste, so I wore the pink sand and white colors of the silicone bands and they worked great! I wear them to workout in, as well.

Today's plans include: unpacking, laundry, catching up on emails, and restocking our refrigerator. So, yeah, it's going to be an exciting day at the Bown Household 😉

Hope you guys have a great weekend!

Our Favorite Weeknight Meals

On most days of the week, I would say that I love to cook. I enjoy being in the kitchen. The process of cooking doesn't often stress me out or overwhelm me. I generally dislike thinking of what to make for dinner, though. I'm one of those people who would be pretty darn happy with a bowl of pasta or a big salad every single night. In the spirit of not being the most boring eater on the planet, though, I like to make 3-4 different dinners in a week. I love being able to cook for two, instead of just myself, because I have the ability to make more food in a week! I'm not subject to eating leftovers for 3 days straight just to not waste all the ingredients I had to buy. We eat out a good bit on the weekends, so I like to make a fresh dinner most every weeknight. If you're stuck in a rut or just like discovering new recipes, I've got you! Our favorite weeknight meals are:

Chicken Taco Salad - I'm grateful to have a husband who loves salad just about as much as I do! (Assuming it has enough protein on it 😉)

The Best Chili on Earth - It actually is the best chili I've ever had! I half the recipe (or you could do the whole recipe and freeze half). We use turkey, instead of beef. It's really good alongside this Skillet Cornbread.

Quinoa Enchilada Casserole - I add in a pound of ground turkey. This reheats like an absolute champ!

Cajun Chicken Pasta - I like to add in extra vegetables, like asparagus or broccoli.

Sesame Chicken Noodles -  I found this recipe in Chrissy Teigen's cookbook and we love it! Super easy to make and so good.

Easy Chicken Parmesan - I was intimidated by homemade chicken parm until I tried this recipe and learned how easy it is. You could easily swap the chicken for eggplant, too!

Creamy Garlic-Chicken Bundles - I made these on a whim once and Mike wouldn't stop raving about them. Easy and adaptable to your tastes!

Easy Chicken and Dumplings - The title says it all, easy.

Non-recipe dinners we love include some type of fish (typically salmon or tilapia), rice pilaf and a vegetable.

Travel Style

We had a very early morning wake-up call because we're off to MEXICO today! We're looking forward to sunshine and warmth and lounging poolside for a few days. We booked our trip back in November and have been anxiously awaiting its arrival ever since. One of our favorite things to do together is travel. The second half of last year was so busy, that we didn't have or make time to go anywhere new. Now that we're settled into our life in Virginia and the holidays are over, we're looking forward to experiencing a new place and hopefully starting a trend of traveling a good bit in 2018!

When I was trying to figure out what I wanted to wear for our travel day, I knew I needed something that would keep me warm (since it's winter!), but allow me to transition into warmer temps once we land at our destination. An easy graphic tee and cozy sweatshirt, paired with my favorite leggings and sneakers, were just the ticket!

I'm hoping to share a bit of our time in Mexico on Instagram/Stories, so be sure to follow along there.

Coffee Conversations

My first Coffee Conversations post of 2018 is here! While I love sharing my style and our home with you, CC might be my favorite posts to write each week. It's just a random collection of things - good sales, what I'm listening to, good recipes, any updates you should know, etc.

One of my goals for Lauren Loves in 2018 is to find new ways to bring you the content you love. I will still utilize social media platforms, of course, but I'm also starting a newsletter! At the end of each month, I'm going to be sending out an email to subscribers (that's you!) with a compilation of all sorts of things. It will sort of be like a Coffee Conversations post on overdrive - it will cover an entire month, instead of just my last week. My favorite item of the month, what I've been cooking, information about sales, outfits that never made it to Instagram, and more! It will be exclusive to the newsletter, so you won't find what I'm sharing in one of these Coffee Conversations posts.

Okay, okay, that's enough with the sales pitch. If you're interested, you can sign up here!

Our amazing videographers shared our wedding film trailer with us last week and we are so, so happy with it. I can't even imagine what the full-length film will be like! It's so fun to relive our day in video! You can watch the trailer on my Facebook page here.

I popped into Athleta last week and wanted one of everything. I picked up this great workout tank (I love the high-neckline!) and these leggings, which are really soft and comfortable. This sweatshirt is so, so soft, too!

We don't have much on our agenda this weekend, which sounds great coming off of two weeks away. I'm looking forward to relaxing at home!

Have a great weekend!

My Favorite Purchases from 2017

2017 was a year that I feel like I really defined and refined my personal style. Previously, I was a bit more of an impulse shopper. If I saw something in the store and liked it right then, I'd buy it, put it in my closet, and there was a a good chance it would sit there for awhile before I ever used it. I would buy outside of they style that I like, feeling like I needed to mix things up or try something new. Time and time again, I'd go back to my favorite things - neutral colors, comfortable layers, easy to wear pieces. Last year, I was a lot more intentional with my purchases. I took more time to consider buying an item and, if I didn't wear/use it within about a month, it went back! My closet is a lot more cohesive and versatile - I'm able to mix and match most things, so I get a lot more use out of everything!

I thought it would be fun and helpful to share my favorite purchases from last year. These are products/items that I'd consider "tried and true". Things I used a ton (and continue to) that are worth the money.

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate
I've shared about this in my skincare post, but I love this product. I use it every single day and it has really helped my skin.

Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara
This mascara has transformed my naturally-full and long lashes! It adds the right amount of volume and length without too much effort. I buy it in multiples whenever it goes on sale.

Bite Agave Lip Mask
I have this on me at all time - adds just the right amount of moisture!

Other Beauty Products I Love

Ugg Aira Knit Scuff Slippers
I love slipping these on every morning when I get out of bed. Super warm and the hard bottom adds extra support!

Aerie Plush Sleep Leggings
You guys have heard me rave about this plenty, but they're that good. I have them in two colors and wear one just about every day around the house.

Barefoot Dreams Cozy Chic Robe
I was in the market for a robe last fall and came across this one. It seemed pretty hyped up in the reviews, so I was skeptical. I mean, can a robe really be that great? I'm here to tell you that yes, yes it can. So warm (sometimes too warm!) and cozy.

Other Loungewear Items I Love

Cuyana Classic Zip-Around Wallet
Mike gave this to me on our wedding day, personalized with my new initials! It's special because of what it reminds me of, but it's also a super functional wallet.

Retro Round Frame Sunglasses
I wear these all the time. I love the oversized frames and you can't beat the price!

Madewell Medium Transport Tote
You probably recognize this bag from this post or Instagram. It's been my go-to in the colder months. It holds a ton of stuff and I love that it's open - easy access!

Other Accessories I Love

Hello, 2018!

Man, I love the start of a new year! It's like an automatic reset on anything and everything. I tend to purge things from my closet and home, set goals for the new year, and try to start good habits. Admittedly, said goals and habits usually wane by about February 10th, but it's the intention behind them that truly matters! Business for Elisabeth Ashlie tends to be slow in January, with most people taking a break from shopping after the holidays, so I like to take this time of year to get my accounting in order, reorganize and restock my office, and plan for new products. After the madness that is the holiday shopping season, it's nice to have a bit of respite to organize my thoughts and prepare for another year!

If history has taught me anything, it's that I don't do New Years Resolutions. They just don't stick with me, I don't know what it is. I do, though, like to think about practical and easy things that I can do to improve my life. Simple things that I have a genuine desire to do or accomplish.

This year, my simple goals are:

+ to drink the recommended amount of water every day (I'm SO bad at staying hydrated with absolutely no excuses. I'm very serious about this one!)

+ to stay on top of my accounting for my businesses (This is a goal every year. I made it to about June last year, so my goal is to make it PAST June this year 😉)

+ to cut down on the mindless scrolling on Instagram (Admittedly, this will be the toughest for me. I use Instagram for my businesses, so I'm sort of required to spend a bit of time on it everyday. I tend to check it a lot during the day, which can turn into a time suck and just isn't necessary. My goal is to only go on when I need to post a photo or reply to comments and when I have free time in the evening.)

+ to get plugged in socially in our new home (We're finally feeling settled in our new home, so I'm looking forward to getting more involved in our Church and hopefully meeting some friends!)

While they all seem easy and totally attainable, I'm sure I will have to remind myself of what I set out to do from time to time.

From a blog/Instagram/social media perspective, I would love to know if there's anything you'd like to see from me this year! I'm looking forward to continuing to share my personal style, beauty and home posts, but am open to what YOU want to read/see, too! After all, you're the reason that I create the content that I share here. Please leave me a comment or shoot me a quick email if you there's something you'd like me to cover.

I'm so looking forward to another year together!
