My "Five Minute Face"

In a normal work week (Monday-Friday), I go through the full "getting ready" process once or twice. Working from home, I don't have a whole lot of need (or desire) to spend an hour in the morning doing my hair and full makeup. Not to mention, I usually do it on the weekends, so I like to give my skin and hair a break whenever I can!

For the days that I'm keeping things simple, I like to do what I call my "five minute face". It's a quick routine that wakes my face up a bit without feeling like I've wasted time and product.

It's a super simple routine that takes, at most, six quick steps. I love having a tried and true, super quick beauty routine in my back pocket, just in case I'm in a situation where I feel like I need a little makeup but am super limited on time. This fits the bill!

STEP ONE: CONCEALER
I'm not afraid to leave the house without a stitch of makeup on, but if I had to pick just one product to apply before going out in public, it would be concealer. It's hard to beat a well-rested and balanced looking face, if you ask me! I use it Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer under my eyes and, if needed, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer on blemishes or around my nose, to balance redness. I apply with a wet beauty blender.

STEP TWO: POWDER
Since I've brightened and balanced parts of my face now, I like to apply a light dusting of my powder foundation over the rest of my face. It covers over any shine from sleeping and evens out my color.

STEP THREE: BRONZER/BLUSH
I'm naturally very fair skinned, so I like to add a little life to my skin with a touch of bronzer and some blush from this palette.

STEP FOUR: BROWS
I may amend my previous statement and say that I'd prefer to have filled-in brows over concealer, if having to choose just one. It's a toss up! I love using Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer to fill-in my brows according to my natural brow lines and then set with this gel.

STEP FIVE: LASHES
On these light makeup days, I don't feel the need to waste my favorite mascara, so I swipe on my favorite drugstore mascara instead. I don't curl my lashes or anything, so it's just a couple layers of product on my top and lower lashes and that's it!

STEP SIX: LIPS
I'll usually apply this lip mask to moisturize. Occasionally, if I'm feeling like a need a little more life and color to my face, I'll opt for the Dior Addict Lip Glow in Lilac!

All in all, it takes me just five minutes to go through this routine. It helps me feel a bit more put together without requiring much effort, which I love. I'll usually work some dry shampoo into my hair and throw on some comfortable clothes and I'm ready for the day!

Happy last Friday of February! That's pretty wild, right? I was firmly in the camp of, "January lasted three months", but now February has absolutely flown by. I'm hoping March feels a little more balanced.

Have you been watching the Olympics? It took me awhile, but I'm pretty into watching them now! Some of the events, especially the short track and the snowboarding, give me so much anxiety, but it's really cool to watch people compete for something they've worked so hard for. I'm bummed that there are only a few days left - I enjoy watching it in the evenings!

I shared the devotional I've been using on my InstaStories earlier this week and received a few questions, so I thought I'd share on here. I have this journaling Bible and am currently doing this devotional. I've done one of them before and enjoyed it, so I was happy to receive this new one as a gift!

I love this color combination on these sneakers!

With each new season, I get the urge to mix things up with our decor. Usually, it just means rearranging a room or buying something small to replace an old decorative item. This time, though, I'm changing up our living room with a new rug and coffee table. Our rug is from several years ago and is shag, so it's getting a bit mangey. Plus, it's smaller than I wanted for the space, so when I found this one on sale for 50% off last weekend, I couldn't resist! Our coffee table is an old Ikea table that Mike has disliked since the second we moved in, so I'm going to try something else to see if it works better for us. I'll share the results on Instagram, once the space is finished!

Speaking of living spaces, don't you want to just post up right here with a good book? It's so beautiful!

I've been wearing this sweatshirt non-stop since it arrived on my doorstep. So. Cozy. (I got a size 1 and it fits perfectly!)

This is such a cute, budget-friendly bag for Spring!

It's supposed to be pretty mild here this weekend, so I'm hoping to finally be able to wear my new jacket.

Okay, I'm going to finish my coffee out of this cute mug. Hope you have a great weekend!

Closet Staples for Spring

Is anyone else ready for spring? Is anyone else annoyed that all people ever do (me included) is talk about how they want the next season to arrive, basically as soon as the season we're currently in starts? Is anyone else completely lost by my train of thought? Sorry.

ANYWAY, I'm 100% ready for spring. I don't need it to be hot yet (or ever), but I would love to go outside without needing a warm coat or several layers. A girl can dream, can't she? Stores have rolled out their spring collections, which makes me very happy, so I thought I'd put together what I consider to be things that every girl can wear this spring.

A DENIM JACKET
I'm a firm believer that a denim jacket is an all-around closet staple. In the spring, summer and autumn, it's my first choice for outerwear - it's just so dang versatile. One of my favorite ways to wear a denim jacket is paired with a white lace dress and pretty sandals. It's a good balance of feminine and laidback.

A PAIR OF MULES
I love mules! I bought this pair last fall and wore them all the time, so I'm so anxious for the weather to warm up so I can wear them again. They're a great way to refine a casual outfit, like ripped jeans and a tee shirt.

AN EMBELLISHED TEE
The easiest way to add a little interest to an outfit is with an embellished or graphic tee. I love a top like this paired with ripped jeans and sneakers or black jeans and booties.

A CARRY-ALL TOTE
I'm sure I'm not the only one who generally avoids being outside in the winter, right? I'm usually out of my house and into my car, out of my car and into my destination, etc. When the temperatures warm up, though, I spend more time outside, which can mean carrying more things on my person. Whether it's a cardigan, scarf, something I picked up at a store, or something else, having a large tote bag makes it super easy to carry everything I need.

A LONG-SLEEVED DRESS
This is a great option for when it's warmed up but there's still a chill in the air. They're so cute paired with booties or mules, too.

A CLASSIC BUTTON-UP
Does it get more classic than a white button-up shirt? I picked one up during Black Friday sales and am so excited to be able to style it in the spring. I'm imaging it with shorts and booties or ripped jeans and mules. The collar and buttons automatically create a pulled together vibe, which I love!

A SWEATSHIRT DRESS
Sort of on-par with the long-sleeve dress, I also love a sweatshirt dress for when it's warming up. They're cute paired with a denim jacket and sneakers. I love having things that I can just throw on and go, like a sweatshirt dress.

A PAIR OF BOOTIES
Just because it gets warmer outside doesn't mean you have to put your booties into storage. A lighter color, like beige, tan, or light grey, and softer material (basically non-leather) allow for you to wear your booties even when it's warm out and not feel like you're dressing out of season.

AN EXPLORER JACKET
This kind of jacket rivals a denim jacket as far as a closet staple. One of my favorite ways to wear it is paired with a really feminine top or dress, like white or blush lace.

What are you spring closet staples?

We just got back from NYC a couple days ago and we're back on the road this morning, heading to my sister's house for the weekend! Mike and Justin (my brother-in-law) are doing a little hiking/camping weekend, so I'm tagging along to hang with my sister and nephews.

NYC was great!  We were there for about 48 hours, which ended up being the perfect amount of time for us. We went to Chelsea Market, the 9/11 Memorial/Museum, saw Blue Man Group perform, and ate lots of delicious food. Obviously, there are a ton of other things we would've loved to have done, but I'm sure we'll make our way back to the city soon. I'd love to take Mike when it's warmer, so that we can spend a bit more time outside, too.

I'm craving a big hair change. I used to change my hair, and change it pretty dramatically, every few months. I'd either go for a dramatic cut or change the color up. A year or two ago, I decided to just let it do it's thing - I liked it and didn't have to think about doing anything. I returned to mostly my natural color and let it grow, grow, grow to wear it is today. I like my hair, don't get me wrong, but I also feel like I want a change! I didn't do the "chop your hair off after your wedding" thing that a lot of brides do - I feel like it's hitting me 6 months later. I love this color and this length.

You wouldn't know it from my job, but I don't wear a lot of jewelry on a daily basis. However, I have been wearing these studs the last few days and love them. They're simple and minimal with just enough style.

I started listening to Atlanta Monster on our drive to NYC and am hoping to get caught up today. I'm liking it, although I'm not as sucked in as I was hoping to be. Maybe that will change!

How cute is this top?!

If you're in the market for a serum, might I suggest this liquid gold? I just restocked on it. Love it!

Hope you have a great weekend!

My Current Rotation of Lipsticks

I've shared before that I wasn't much of a lipstick wearer until recently. In fact, as with a lot of my makeup-related things, I used the same tinted lip balm for probably five years before ever branching out into other products. What can I say? I'm a creature of habit.

I'm happy to report that I've grown out of that entirely uninteresting phase of my life and have discovered the greatness of lipstick. I'm one of those people that has a deep-seated fear of having being somewhere and not having some type of moisturizing lip product on. So, while I don't wear lipstick everyday, I've come to find that the one's I do wear are moisturizing enough (for me) that I don't really think about it.

Unlike my sister, I don't really enjoy trying out new makeup products or trying to search for new products. When I find something that works, I stick with it. These lipsticks/products have become my go-to options, depending on what I'm looking for. They cover all the bases, too: a nude, a tinted balm, a bold color, and an everyday option.

First up is a classic nude. This exact color has been discontinued by Bite, but Meringue is the closest option that they currently have. I know that not everyone likes a nude lip, but I really do. I think it's a great option when: I have bolder eye makeup than usual and don't want to feel too overdone or when I'm going for a "no makeup" makeup look. I just picked up Mac's Creme D'Nude shade a couple days ago and really like that one, too.

It can be difficult to find a nude lip that doesn't make you look like a walking corpse. My tip is to find one that has an undertone of pink, or to mix it with another color (like a pink) when applying, so that it isn't completely nude.

Next is a tinted lip balm. I love having a tinted lip balm option, especially in the summer. I'm usually more minimal with my everyday makeup in the summer, so it's nice to add just a bit of color to my lips, without feeling overdone in a lipstick. This balm is my absolute favorite (my favorite shade is Lilac, then Pink). It enhances your natural lip color and adds moisture like a dream.

Admittedly, my favorite kind of lipstick to wear is a bold color. I feel like if I'm going to make the effort to wear a lipstick, it might as well make a bit of a statement, right?! I used to love bright pinks, like Urban Decay's Obsessed, but I tend towards richer tones now. My only go-to for a bold lip is Stila's Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Baci.  It is matte, so it tends to get dry, but I just swipe on a lip mask to revive and moisture my lips. I love that it really does stay all day, too.

My go-to for my everyday option is Urban Decay's Morning After. It's a sheer formula, so it adds color without feeling dry or looking cakey after awhile. This was the lipstick I wore on our wedding day, too! I wanted to look and feel like myself, which I did. This lipstick is always in my purse because it's an easy option when I need a little color!

On days when I'm around the house or not wearing lipstick, I'm obsessively applying this lip mask or this lip treatment.

Well, hey there, Friday. Happy to see you!

Do you ever eat a big dinner and wake up the next morning still feeling so full? That's me this morning. Yesterday was Mike's birthday, so we went out to a delicious dinner and indulged...clearly. Thursdays are his "school" days (he's in a hybrid program, so only has in-person classes once a week), so we didn't get to do anything much to celebrate besides dinner. However, we are heading to NYC this weekend (more on that soon!), so I'm hoping we can do something a little special while we're there!

There's a new curated box available at Elisabeth Ashlie and it's for all of you who are anxiously awaiting SPRING! (Also makes a great gift).

This Is Us lovers - I can't bring myself to watch the last two episodes. I CAN'T DO IT. I still don't know what happened with the fire and part of me never wants to find out.

If you're in the mood for a more light-hearted but interesting episode of a podcast this weekend, I really enjoyed this one. And consequently tried to determine what I would consider my "undesirable talent" to be.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is anxious for warmer weather, right? I don't want it to be hot, but I can't wait to be able to wear something like this and not freeze, ya know?

For a self-declared "neutrals lover", I've been really drawn to blush pink lately, which is pretty clear by my current wishlist. It feels a little foreign to be liking and wearing some color, but I'm enjoying it!

I'm thinking we need to try this for dinner sometime next week.

Have a great weekend!

I love finding new ways to wear items I already have in my closet. Not only does it mean that I get more use out of an item, but it allows me to use my creativity in my favorite way - creating something new! A lot of times when I buy something, whether it's a pair of shoes, a jacket, or a sweater, I'm imaging how I'll wear it before I even get it home. Some items are super versatile, like a jean jacket - it can be worn with nearly anything. Some items are less so, like a pair of over-the-knee boots.

For the versatile items in my closet, I like to have a casual option and more dressed up option on hand. Casual is my go-to, so that's usually the way I'll style it first. I wear a lot of athleisure outfits, so pairing a hooded sweatshirt with leggings and sneakers was easy to do. When I wanted to create a more put together option, I had to think outside the box of a "hoodie" a bit. Probably for most people, a hoodie is a super casual/lounge around/wear to the gym type of item. Most often, that's how I wear mine. But, I like the idea of being able to pair more refined pieces with casual pieces, so adding in a pair of pointed-toe mules and some statement studs was a good balance. The best part about this look is that you can take off the sweatshirt to reveal a cute embroidered tee underneath!

Which way would you wear it: athleisure or dressed up?

You know you had a good night's sleep when your wake-up call is the Fedex delivery man ringing your doorbell 🙈 I have to sign for a lot of packages that I receive, so I flew out of bed, threw a robe on, and met him at the door - I think I startled him with my very obvious not-yet-awake, bedhead self, but that's okay.

We have another semi-busy weekend ahead of us, but it should be fun! I don't care a lick about the actual football game to be played on Sunday, but I am very much looking forward to making some appetizers/snacks for us to enjoy. I'm hoping the commercials are good this year, too!

I popped into Aerie the other day to return a couple of items and, of course, couldn't leave empty-handed. This long sleeve-tee is so incredibly soft, I've been wearing it in the morning and evening with my sweats. If you happen to be in the market for a good t-shirt bra, this is a good one!

Mike and I enjoy watching a show together in the evenings, so we've been working our way through the popular series' the last few months. We've just started Fargo a couple days ago. I'm still undecided on it. Some episodes I really enjoy and others I actually fall asleep* while watching.

(*lesson learned: don't get horizontal on the couch between 7pm-9pm unless you want to fall asleep)

If you saw my Instastories yesterday, you know that we had a couple pizzas from our favorite place in Chicago delivered! A dear friend gifted me with a gift card to Tastes of Chicago (she knows me well!), so we cashed in on some pizzas and it was so worth it. Obviously, Lou Malnati's pizza is best fresh out of the oven in the restaurant, but they do a darn good job with the frozen, shipped version. It was close enough to the real deal that we'll definitely be ordering more!

I've been wearing these earrings non-stop lately.

Here's a pretty good dupe for my favorite weekender bag.

Hope you have a great weekend!
