Updating My Skincare Routine with Colleen Rothschild

Something that I’ve been intentional about doing in the last year or so is simplifying my skincare routine. I used to be the girl with an entire under-sink cabinet and medicine cabinet full of products. I had products for all different kinds of situations depending on what my skin was doing and what it needed. While meeting the needs of my skin is a good thing, I’m sure that I was wasting time and money using such a large variety of products. Instead, I wanted to simplify my collection and have it made up of really good, high quality products that did just what I needed. I went from 7+ skincare brands to now just two that I use! It makes my morning and evening routine easier and means that replenishing my supply is a simpler process. (Psssst! Don’t miss the discount code at the end of this post!)

The newest brand addition to my skincare regimen is Colleen Rothschild. I’d heard and read great things (this cleansing balm has a cult following!), so I decided to finally give it a shot once my other products ran out. In short: I’m very glad my other products ran out. I’ve been using the cleansing balm and complete eye cream nightly, and the extreme recovery cream as needed.

I’ve always preferred an oil-based makeup remover. I like how it makes my skin feel and look. What I love about the cleansing balm is that it gently removes my makeup, even mascara. As I’m working it into my skin, it feels like my makeup is just melting away; there’s no pulling, tough scrubbing, or anything else to cause damage to the delicate areas of my face. After rinsing it off, my skin feels so soft, moisturized, and looks luminous. It completely removes my makeup, too! There’s no mascara smudging under my eyes or foundation left on my pillow in the morning. The classic version is great and they just launched the Cocoa Bean Cleansing Balm this month. It smells amazing. It works just as well as the original, but I prefer it just for the scent alone. Plus, there’s real vanilla beans in it, which creates a mild exfoliating effect, so my skin is even softer after using it!

One part of my skincare routine that I’ve been pretty lax about is eye cream. I know, I know, it’s important! It’s one of those products that I don’t always see the immediate effect of, but I know that it will make a difference in the long run as I continue to age. I don’t like the feeling of a lot of product on my skin, no matter what it is. What I like about the Complete Eye Cream is that it goes on smooth and feels like I’m giving my under eye area special treatment. It soaks in enough that it doesn’t feel goopy or heavy on my skin while I’m sleeping, but I can feel how moisturized my eye area is when I wake up because it’s still on my skin.

While I generally don’t deal with dryness on my skin, there are certainly weeks and time throughout the winter time when my skin is drier than normal. I’ll usually get small patches of dry or irritated looking skin around my hairline and on my neck. I’ve been using the Extreme Recovery Cream as a sort of spot treatment when those areas show up. It’s buttery and has a thick consistency, but goes on smooth and soaks into the skin well. It doesn’t feel super heavy on my skin, which I love!

Are your bathroom counters extra low? Or are you just a lot taller than I imagined you to be?

I tried out this brand after seeing it so highly promoted on Hi Sugarplum’s blog. But it just didn’t work well for my skin. I have sensitive skin and the balm made my skin itchy and blotchy. I recently switched to using mostly Origins products and I’m LOVING them.
