I often get asked questions regarding closet staples: what’s worth investing in? what should I definitely have in my closet? is it worth spending more money on denim? and the like. While everyone spends differently on clothing and accessories, I do think there’s a case to be made for investing more in staples and things that will last you for years to come. Want to try out the leopard print trend this season? Opt for something more budget-friendly, since it will probably not be as trendy next year. Looking for a new pair of denim? Consider shopping around a bit to find your brand and investing in a pair or two of jeans that you know will last you for years to come. Because let’s be honest, shopping for denim can be a time-consuming and frustrating experience. I’m a big believer in spending a bit more up-front for the pieces that are classic and that you’ll keep for many seasons.
If you’re looking for a shopping destination with closet staples and timeless pieces that are high-quality and will last you through many wears, look no further than Everlane. What I love about the brand is that they offer both classic silhouettes and a few trendier, more fashion-forward styles, too. It’s one of those retailers that you go to when you’re looking to stock up on plain tees, invest in a new cashmere sweater, or pick out a pair of booties that make you feel like you can conquer the world. I recently added a few items to my closet for the season and know they’ll be getting good wear.
First up is their ReCashmere Vintage Crew, with fun ribbing detail around the collar and wrists and a classic crewneck fit. It’s one of those pieces that you can throw on with a pair of jeans and boots and head out the door – it sort of speaks for itself, you know? Speaking of jeans, these Authentic High Rise Skinny Jeans in the Deep Indigo Wash are a great pair! If you don’t like the super stretch that comes in a lot of denim today, these would be great for you. They have just enough stretch to make them comfortable, but still suck you in and keep their shape throughout the day beautifully. Plus, I love that super dark wash, which allows them to be easy to dress up.
Let’s have a quick moment of silence for these booties…
Great, now I can gush. I put them on and instantly felt like a #boss, which is fitting, as they’re known as the Boss Boot. They’re made of beautiful pebbled leather, have the pointed toe of my dreams, and just the right amount of heel to make a little noise without leading to discomfort halfway through the day.
So, the closet staples that I think are worth investing in are:
Denim – especially if you wear jeans a lot, you should find the brand that fits you best and offers denim that with withstand many wears and washes
Classics, like a cashmere sweater – cashmere will never go out of style, and if you purchase it in a classic silhouette, you’ll be able to wear it for years to come
A great pair of boots – if you wear this type of shoe in the fall/winter, you can’t go wrong finding that one magical pair that makes you feel great when you put it on! Besides, you need to wear shoes everyday, right? When you calculate the cost per wear with how often you’ll wear them, the investment makes sense!
