Two Matte Lipsticks for Summer

My first foray into non-drugstore makeup was a few months before my sister’s wedding. I was okay at doing my own makeup for day-to-day life, but didn’t have the products or the skills to do a makeup look for a special event, like a wedding. She suggested that we all go to the MAC counter at the mall to have them do a makeup trial, and I ended up walking away with a few products that I still use and love to this day! That experience opened me up to a whole new world and I haven’t looked back!

One of the reasons that I love shopping at Ulta Beauty is because they carry a great assortment of brands, including MAC Cosmetics. It’s convenient to be able to buy one of the first eyeshadows I ever used (and still use!), my favorite eyeshadow primer, and some pretty lipsticks while doing the rest of my makeup shopping! Speaking of lipstick, the MAC Powder Kiss Lipstick is a newer discovery for me and I’m glad to have tried it! I love a matte lip, but they can be drying and look worse for the wear after just an hour or so. The Powder Kiss line has a selection of great colors and is formulated to feel weightless and hydrating on your lips. It’s difficult to even describe what it feels like when applying – I understand the use of the word, “powder” in the name now. It goes on super smooth and feels silky, like there’s nothing on your lips but a dusting of product, like a powder.

I picked out two colors for spring/summer that are bright and fun!

While I’ve changed my ways a little bit, in terms of choosing lip colors, I still tend towards bright, bold pinks. My lips are naturally pretty pink, so I like to enhance the natural color with my lipstick. The first color I tried is Sultriness. It pulls like a rich watermelon punch on my skin, which I think is a fun change up from my usual rose pink color.

I also have been wearing the shade, Scattered Petals, which is a more peachy, salmon-like color. This one is more outside my comfort zone, but it looks really pretty with a shimmery eyeshadow look and a similarly colored top or dress.

The line also features quite a few great nudes and reds, if you prefer those shades over a pink. A little pro tip for wearing a matte lipstick: if you need to smooth out your lip color, like after eating or drinking, apply a little bit of clear or nude lip gloss to your lips to work the color where you want it to go!

    Hi Lauren,
Love your blog!! Just wondering on the J Crew jean shirt you are wearing what size did you get?? I normally wear a medium but the reviews say it runs big so size down?? Just curious your thoughts before I order. Thanks!!
