A Simple “Five-Minute Face” + New Mascara I’m Using

With the impending arrival of our first baby, I’m finding myself looking to simplify my “getting ready” process. While I love a good no-makeup day, I’ve found that I’m a bit more productive and feel better when I do a little something with myself for the day! Once baby boy arrives, I’m sure there will be more makeup-free days than not, but I also want to have a quick routine set up for the days that I want to do a little something to wake my face up.

The two things that make the biggest difference for my face are concealer and mascara. Concealer and/or a corrector can do wonders for brightening your face, especially under your eyes, and making you look like you got a full night of sleep, even if you didn’t! The second step, and maybe just as important, is adding some mascara to your lashes to really open up your eyes. I’ve been using a new mascara, Tarte’s SEA Surfer Curl Volumizing Mascara, for the last couple weeks and love it for these light makeup days. The mascara adds some length and volume to my lashes without getting clumpy or being overly dramatic for a minimal makeup day. It took me a minute to get used to the applicator wand, since it’s a bit skinnier than I was used to, but now I love it. Since it’s on the skinny side, it makes it super easy to apply mascara from the root to the tip of my lashes. I’m also finding that I’m getting less product on my eyelids because I have a bit more control over the wand.

Another positive of this mascara is that it’s super easy to wash off at the end of the day, but it doesn’t transfer on my skin. We’ve had a few very warm, humid days here that I’ve worn it outside and haven’t experienced any issues with it wearing off on my upper brow bone of below my eyes. It’s vegan, cruelty-free, and made with good ingredients, too!

Look at the difference in my eyes with and without mascara! You don’t have to do a full routine to liven up your face and help yourself feel pulled together.

For the full look, I fill in my brows, add a little color to my cheeks with blush, and finish with a nude or very light pink tinted lip balm. All in, it takes me less than five minutes! Simplicity and speed are key to finding a go-to routine like this, so I’m glad to have products in my makeup drawer that make it easy to do!

Hi! I recently started using the Lash Paradise that you suggested and really enjoy it. Since I liked that recommendation, I ordered the Tarte Shape Tape, too. I like the shade I got, but coming fromIt Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye, I find it to be very wet and thin. It wears during the day find, but I don’t know if I’m using the right amount since I’m used to a thicker concealer. Do you find this to be the case? Any pointers?

It’s definitely different than the bye bye under eye. I like shape tape for blemishes and brightening any dark/red spots on my face, but still use the bye bye under eye for under my eyes. You may want to try setting it with a powder after applying!
