The “Must Do” Step of My Makeup Routine

Let’s talk about highlighting products. Do you use one? I’ve had a couple over the years, using them here and there, but it wasn’t until recently that it became an essential step in my makeup routine. I love that I can use it to accentuate the high points of my face, add a healthy glow to my skin, and add a little dimension to my overall makeup look. I will use a highlighting product year round, but it’s especially helpful in the winter when my skin is more fair and can be on the more dry side.

I’ve used both liquid and powder highlighters and like both for different reasons. A liquid highlight, like Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter Primer & Highlighter can be used as more than just a highlighter that goes on top of your other makeup. With a liquid like this one, you can use it as a primer, creating a glowy base for the rest of your makeup. A sort of “glow from within” effect. You can also blend it in with your foundation to add a brightening element to your foundation. If you’re going makeup free, you can also use a liquid highlighter to add a little glow to your skin! I like to apply this with a damp beauty blender to allow for optimal blending and a smooth application.

With a powder highlighter, the options are a little bit more limited, but the payoff is still just as good! Using a small, fluffy brush, you can really concentrate your powder highlight where you want it. If you want just the smallest bit of light bouncing off the high points of your face, you can use just a dusting of powder. In my experience, using a powder highlighter creates a more subtle, natural looking glow. The highlighting powder in the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow Contour Duo is beautiful – it’s the one I reach for, if I’m doing powder instead of liquid.

If you’re looking at add a highlighting product to your makeup routine, I recommend checking out the selection from Nordstrom. I love that they carry a wide variety of brands – it’s one of the first places I go to when shopping for new beauty products!

I’ve tried highlighter before, but really don’t know how to use it. Could you do a video (or perhaps post one that you happen to like by someone else) to help us figure out the best way to use it? Also, since mask wearing is a thing, where would you even “bother” to put it where the efforts to use it would be noticeable?

I use it on my cheekbones, Cupid’s bow, and sometimes down the bridge of my nose!

Highlighter always intrigues me but whenever I’ve tried it, it accentuates and brings out even the tiniest wrinkles and imperfections. Just as shown on your hand, the liquid really highlights the texture of your skin whereas without it your skin looks younger and smoother. When I use it, it always makes me look older.
