Our Stay at the Sweetgrass Inn

We recently had the opportunity to spend a couple days at the new Sweetgrass Inn at Wild Dunes Resort. We had a lovely stay! I shared some highlights and what we were up to on my Instagram Stories throughout our trip, but wanted to share a full recap in one place for you.

The Wild Dunes Resort is located on Isle of Palms in South Carolina. It’s about a 30 minute drive to downtown Charleston, so it’s in a great location! There’s plenty of surrounding areas to explore, but the resort property has a lot to offer.  The Sweetgrass Inn is the newest hotel on the property. It has a fantastic pool and kids area, complete with a splash pad and zero entry pool. Liam loved being able to practice his new walking skills through the splash pad and the shallow end of the pool! We enjoyed good food at the various restaurants on the property and I got to indulge in a fantastic massage at the spa. Before we even left the property on Saturday, I was ready to plan our return!

We left Raleigh on Thursday morning, arriving at the Sweetgrass Inn in the afternoon. We were a little early for check-in time, but our room was ready for us, so we were able to go and get everything set up! It was our first time staying in a hotel with Liam, so I wanted to get everything set up and in place for him. We got situated in the room and then went out to explore the property. I wanted to get my lay of the land a bit, so we walked throughout the pool area, over to the Boardwalk Inn, down the Boardwalk, and more.

Thursday evening, we had dinner at Coastal Provisions. It was delicious! We started with drinks – Paloma for me, Mai Tai for Mike. Then we enjoyed some of their house-made biscuits with garlic and herb butter, which I could’ve eaten a dozen of. I went for the crab cakes for my entree, Mike opted for the special, which was halibut. We also split a side of the street corn, which was very good. We were able to get a table outside, which is always my preference when eating with Liam! Service was great, food was delicious. I definitely recommend eating there, if you visit.

On Friday, we drove over to Huey’s for breakfast. It’s right on the golf course, about a mile and a half drive from our room. If you’re up for it, it would make for a really nice walk, too! After breakfast, we got ready for the pool and headed down for Liam to play! He spent time in the splash pad, splashed in the pool, and practiced his walking on the turf. He had a blast! During his nap, I enjoyed some solo time by the pool and then met my sister and her family at Beachside Burgers on the Boardwalk. I got the Charleston Margarita there, which was so good!

Later that afternoon, I headed over to the spa to enjoy their sacred healing Swedish massage. I’ve gotten a handful of massages over the years – this was definitely the best! From the beauty of the spa itself, to the skill of my therapist, to getting to relax a bit after in the spa lounge, it was wonderful! If you book a trip to the Sweetgrass Inn, make sure to plan time to spend at the spa. They have a beautiful outdoor courtyard area with lounge seating, plunge baths, and more.

We opted to get dinner somewhere off property on Friday, so that we can explore the area a little bit. Then we returned to our room to put Liam to bed and enjoyed the rest of the evening on the balcony, watching sunset and having a drink from the downstairs bar.

On Saturday morning, we walked the short walk to Hudson’s Market for a grab-and-go breakfast. We both got breakfast sandwiches, which were a nice option for an easy breakfast. They offer a variety of coffee, drinks, and breakfast options. There’s also traditional “market” products sold there, as well. We got our last bit of energy out playing in the turf and then packed up to head home! I wish we’d had one more full day there to enjoy everything that it has to offer, but that just motivates me to make a return trip happen even more.

The only thing I feel like we missed out on was evening activities. Since we wanted to keep Liam on his regular sleeping schedule, we were in our room for the night at about 6:30p. I would’ve loved to have watched the sunset from the beach, sat around the fire pit with a glass of wine, or just wandered around the property a bit.

Overall, we had a great stay! Many thanks to the Sweetgrass Inn for hosting us!

While this was a media trip in which I was offered a stay in exchange for sharing our experience, one thing I really appreciated is that many servers and staff didn’t know that I was on a media trip. I feel like I got a true experience of service as a standard customer. Overall, I was very pleased with my interactions with the entire staff, which is a huge factor for me when it comes to a hotel stay!

We will definitely be back! It’s a great place to visit with plenty of activities for adults and kids. We’ve already discussed a trip with our whole family, since we think everyone would enjoy it!

The place looks beautiful and relaxing! You mentioned in Stories that you used a Slumberpod for Liam. How did that go? Was that the first time using it? I bought one for an upcoming trip this summer with my daughter and I’m a little anxious about how she’ll handle it!

We’ve used it before, but that was the first time using it when he was sleeping in the same room as us. It was great! If we didn’t have the Slumberpod, him sleeping about 7 feet from us would not have gone so well. Highly recommend it!

From your stories on Instagram I could really tell this was a great place to travel too. I’ve been making a list about places I’d like to travel to once we have a chance during this year, I’m putting this place on it.
    It looks absolutely awesome!
