It wasn’t until about two years ago that I started enjoying buying shoes. Before that, shoes were the equivalent of outerwear; exists for function, style optional (my views have changed a bit on this, too). My infrequent shoe searches were based on comfort and practicality only. If they happened to be cute and stylish, that was a bonus! I had about three at a time that were in regular rotation – a sneaker, a ballet flat, and a boot or bootie.
While I still prefer shopping for other things over shoes, I have developed an appreciation for the element that a pair of shoes can add to an outfit. Picking out which pair I’m going to wear on a given day is no longer an afterthought; it’s a calculated decision based on what I’m wearing, what I’ll be doing, and any outstanding factors, like weather.
While my collection of shoes has grown a bit, I still have my golden pairs – the styles that I keep reaching for over and over again, year after year. My favorite rain boots have been my trusty sidekick for several years now. Obviously, they’re great in the rain – I brought them with on our trip to Seattle last year and wore them the whole time – but I also like them for snow. I pull on a pair of super warm socks and they function as good as a traditional snow boot. They’re even cute with a flowy dress in a spring or summer rainstorm!
Since we’re still in the thick of the winter season, I’ve rounded up some other inclement weather boots from Nordstrom! Forever in love with their variety and free shipping and returns. You can’t beat it!
